WHAT JUNIORS SHOULD BE DOING RIGHT NOW (MARCH/APRIL GAME PLAN)

If you’re a high school junior, this is it.

👉 Right now (March & April) is one of the MOST important windows in the entire college admissions process.

What you do in the next 6–8 weeks can:

  • Reduce stress senior year
  • Improve your chances of acceptance
  • Help you avoid last-minute panic

Let’s break it down into a simple, no-overwhelm plan.

🚀 Why This Time Matters So Much

By late spring of junior year:

  • Your GPA is mostly set
  • Testing season is happening
  • College lists are forming

👉 Translation: Colleges are starting to see who you are

This is your time to get strategic.

✅ 1. Lock in Your Testing Plan (SAT/ACT)

If you haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet—or want to improve your score—now is the time.

✔️ What to do:

  • Register for spring or early summer test dates
  • Take at least 1–2 full-length practice tests
  • Decide: SAT, ACT, or test-optional strategy

💡 Goal: Have your best score by early fall of senior year

🏫 2. Build (and Refine) Your College List

Your list should NOT be random.

You want a balanced mix of:

  • Reach schools
  • Target schools
  • Safety schools

✔️ What to do:

  • Research majors, campus vibe, and location
  • Look at acceptance rates and average GPA/test scores
  • Start narrowing your list to 8–12 schools

✈️ 3. Start Visiting Colleges (Virtual or In-Person)

Spring is the PERFECT time to visit.

✔️ What to do:

  • Tour campuses over spring break or weekends
  • Attend virtual info sessions if travel isn’t possible
  • Take notes after each visit (they all blur together!)

💡 Bonus: Demonstrated interest can matter at some schools

✍️ 4. Start Thinking About Your Personal Statement

You don’t need to write it yet—but you DO need to start thinking.

✔️ Ask yourself:

  • What experiences shaped me?
  • What challenges have I overcome?
  • What makes my story different?

💡 Starting early = stronger, less stressful essays later

👩‍🏫 5. Line Up Letters of Recommendation

Don’t wait until fall when teachers are overwhelmed.

✔️ What to do:

  • Identify 1–2 teachers who know you well
  • Participate in class and stay engaged
  • Consider asking before the school year ends

📚 6. Stay Focused on Grades (This Still Matters!)

Junior year is often the MOST important academic year.

✔️ Why?

  • It’s the last full year colleges see
  • It shows rigor and consistency

👉 Don’t let “almost senior” energy hurt your GPA

🏆 7. Strengthen Your Activities (Depth > Quantity)

Colleges care more about impact than long lists.

✔️ What to do:

  • Take on leadership roles
  • Deepen involvement in 1–3 key activities
  • Consider a summer plan (job, internship, volunteering)

💰 8. Start Learning About Financial Aid

This is where many families fall behind.

✔️ What to do:

  • Talk openly about budget
  • Research scholarships
  • Understand FAFSA basics

💡 The earlier you understand costs, the better your decisions will be

🗓️ Your March–April Game Plan (Save This!)

✔️ Register for SAT/ACT
✔️ Take practice tests
✔️ Build your college list
✔️ Visit schools (virtual or in-person)
✔️ Brainstorm essay ideas
✔️ Identify teachers for recommendations
✔️ Stay strong academically

❤️ Final Thought

You don’t have to do everything perfectly.

But if you use March and April wisely…

👉 Senior year becomes a LOT less stressful—and a lot more exciting.

Future you will be so glad you started now 💙
